CoQ10 is Essential for life!
Co-enzyme Q10, commonly known as CoQ10, is a vitamin-like substance required by the body to transform food into cellular energy. It is essential to energy production in the body. It also gives important antioxidant protection in the cells. It is such an important part of life processes that without it, life would cease to exist in a few moments.
The body is able to produce sufficient amounts of CoQ10 to maintain life. However, after 20 years old, CoQ10 levels in the body begin to diminish. Studies show that if those levels decline by 25%, our body won’t have enough cellular energy to stay healthy. If the levels continue to go down and decline by 75%, this could be fatal.
Importance of CoQ10 to the heart
Our lives literally depend upon our cells having enough energy to do their jobs. This is how important CoQ10 is. Its greatest effect can be seen in the heart. Heart cells work to sustain rhythmic contractions and release in the heart muscle so that oxygen and nutrient rich blood is delivered to the cells. They also work to carry oxygen-depleted, carbon dioxide rich blood away from the heart. Should these cells lack energy to do these things, a life threatening problem occurs.
The highest concentrations of CoQ10 are found in the heart, the immune system, and the liver. These are the cells that require the most energy. People with poor health have been shown to have insufficient levels of CoQ10 in their systems. The opposite is true for healthy people — they have normal levels of this life-giving nutrient. Because of the discovery this relation, CoQ10 has been used in the treatment and prevention of congestive heart failure, angina, arrhythmia, myocardial degeneration, and high blood pressure.
Importance of CoQ10 to the immune system
Like the heart, the immune system is also highly dependent on energy. Allergies, Candida overgrowth, cancer, AIDS, chronic fatigue, and periodontal disease are all a result of immune system dysfunction. Unfortunately, immune strength declines with age, stress, and poor nutrition, but CoQ10 can boost a weakened immune system. Supplied with enough energy, the immune system can function optimally to sustain good health.
Importance of CoQ10 in aging
Another area of importance is aging. As CoQ10 levels decline, we experience more symptoms associated with aging. This is linked not only to insufficient cellular energy, but also to CoQ10’s antioxidant functions. CoQ10 provides the energy that the cells need to be healthy and also protects them from free radicals that cause cellular damage that may eventually lead to early different illnesses and early signs of aging.
Supplementing with CoQ10
The body’s CoQ10 levels may diminish with age and various other factors, but the body’s need for CoQ10 never diminishes from womb to tomb. We need CoQ10 to live and we need it as long as we live. After a deficiency has occurred, it takes some time for tissues to regenerate. That is why supplementation with CoQ10 usually takes 5 to 6 months before beneficial effects can be fully experienced. Talk to your doctor about adding CoQ10 to your daily intake.
