Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a coenzyme in our mitochondria (cell’s “power houses”) that produce approximately 90% of all cell energy. Aside from being an essential coenzyme for the vast majority of our energy production, it is also a strong antioxidant. It is present in every cell in all parts of the body, that’s why its other name (Ubiquinone) is derived from the word “ubiquitous” which means “present everywhere.” It highly concentrated in body organs that require high levels of energy, like the heart, brain, lungs, liver, kidney and stomach.
Because CoQ10 is responsible for the production of energy at the cellular level, it has been used as a supplement to increase energy and stamina, especially for the older adults. It is critical in generating the energy “currency” of all your cells in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Your cells require CoQ10 to produce the energy you need in order to live.
