What is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is the term used to refer to a group of fat-soluble compounds that include both tocopherols and tocotrienols. It is found in many foods, fats, and oil. It is the oldest recognized biologic antioxidant that destroys free radicals (harmful compounds in the body that damage DNA and even cause cell death).
Free radicals are believed to cause aging and a number of health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Vitamin E provides protection against these conditions and also helps reduce the damage caused by toxic chemicals and pollutants. It is also important in the formation of red blood cells and usage of Vitamin K in the body. (more…)
